Ingredients for Slow Cooker Sausage and Peppers
Sausage – We prefer a sweet Italian sausage for this recipe but feel free to experiment.
Sauce – A marinara sauce works really well here but you can also try using a spaghetti sauce or any other tomato-based sauce.
Seasonings – We went with some oregano, basil, cayenne, and some salt & pepper.
For serving, you’ll also want either some hoagie rolls and some cheese or some rice. You could also serve over some pasta if you like!
How to cook Sausage and Peppers in slow cooker
Cut and prep all your veggies.
Add all of your ingredients to a slow cooker or crockpot.
Slow cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours. Serve over rice or on toasted hoagie rolls.
After slicing your veggies, there isn’t much else left to do except getting everything in the slow cooker. Layer in your sausages.
Top with your peppers and onions.
Cover everything with your marinara sauce.
Lastly, add your seasonings and garlic.
Now close the cooker up and let it do its work. Let it cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-8 hours.
When your Sausage and Peppers are done, you can serve them up in all sorts of ways. Throw them in a toasted hoagie roll with some cheese for one of the best sandwiches you’ve ever had or serve simply over a bed of rice or pasta. You could even serve it up in a bowl on its own, topped with a bit of your favorite cheese. However you serve it up, we hope you enjoy it!
Freezing and Storage
You’re bound to have leftovers- especially if you made a double batch of this stuff. Once cooked, your Sausage, Peppers, and Onions should last about 3-4 days stored in an airtight container in the fridge. For longer-term storage, you’ll want to consider freezing: frozen, these sausages will stay good for about 3 months. To reheat, defrost in the fridge and then warm back up in the slow cooker with a splash of water.
