Ingredients to Make Rice Krispie Treats with Peanut Butter

You only need a handful of simple ingredients to help you make this recipe. All of these ingredients are easy to find at your local grocery store, and you may already have some of them in your pantry to help you save a little cash.

Ingredients to Make Rice Krispie Treats with Peanut Butter
  • Salted Butter
  • Marshmallows – I used mini marshmallows, full sized work too!
  • Peanut Butter
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Rice Krispies Cereal – I used Kellogg’s Rice Krispies brand but any generic or brand cereal will work
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Shortening

How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Treats

Making this delicious and peanut butter filled recipe is so simple. Just follow the instructions below and you will have a simple snack recipe in no time at all.

Showing how to make Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispies
  1. In a large pot or large saucepan melt the butter over low heat.
  2. Add marshmallows, peanut butter and vanilla. Stir until melted and blended.
  3. Remove from heat and add in the Rice Krispies. Stir until blended.
  4. Transfer to prepared pan and gently press the mixture into place. Set aside.
  5. Place the chocolate chips and shortening onto a microwavable dish. Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and repeat until mixture is melted.
  6. Pour melted chocolate over the rice krispie treats and spread with a spatula.
  7. Allow chocolate to set. Once set, cut into bars.

Tip: Spray your baking dish well with nonstick cooking spray, or line it with parchment paper for easy clean up, and cutting.

Substitutions

  • Cocoa Rice Krispies – Add even more flavor to this sweet treat by using Cocoa Krispies instead.
  • Coconut Oil – Coconut oil can be used instead of shortening in this recipe.
  • Chocolate Chips – You can customize this recipe by using milk chocolate, dark chocolate or even white chocolate chips instead of the semi-sweet.
  • Crunchy Peanut Butter – adds a bit more crunch and flavor.
  • Almond Butter – if it’s your preference.
  • Cashew Butter – Let me know if you try it instead of the peanut butter.

Variations

Here are a few ways that you can personalize this recipe to add your own flare to it.

  • Nuts – Chopped peanuts or pecans can be added for crunch and extra flavor.
  • M&M’s – Add M&M’s to the melted chocolate before pouring it over the top of the treats for an added crunch.
  • Flaky Sea Salt – Sprinkle a bit on top of the crispy treats. It pairs well with the chocolate topping.

Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats

Ingredients 

  • 1/4 cup Butter
  • 5 cup Mini Marshmallows , (about 10 oz bag)
  • 1/2 cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 6 cup Rice Krispie
  • 1 1/2 cup Chocolate Chips
  • 2 tbsp Shortening

Instructions 

  • Line a 9×13″ inch pan with with parchmant paper or grease it. Set aside.
  • In a large pan melt the butter over low heat.
  • Add marshmallows, peanut butter and vanilla.
  • Stir until melted and blended.

  • Stir until blended.
