Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Making retro from scratch recipes for my family is always fun. Gingerbread is a Christmas favorite, but most have not had the real thing. If you have yet to try it, make this holiday cake this year and start a new tradition.

Gingerbread Cookies are typically the only gingerbread recipe that most have given a try. Real Old Fashioned Gingerbread has the consistency of a dense cake. We serve it with a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream. Either option is amazing.

The key to making a perfect Gingerbread is the molasses that you will use. Be sure to purchase an unsulphured version like Grandma’s Brand. I often buy mine at Aldi, and it works perfectly.

Homemade Gingerbread

The cinnamon and ginger spices add so much flavor. My house always smells wonderful when this Gingerbread Cake is baking in the oven. It’s a cozy scent that your family will love.

As I mentioned, Homemade Gingerbread is dense, so it is heavy, and even a smaller sized piece will be a perfect sized serving. I like to serve when it is still slightly warm. A scoop of vanilla ice cream on top makes this cake extra dreamy.
