Cheesy Breadsticks

Make these Easy Cheesy Breadsticks right at home! There’s no need to order take-out! Our recipe is better than Dominos, Papa Johns, etc!
Cheesy Garlic Bread is always one of my favorite appetizers to order from pizza delivery. But, my grocery/food budget has been squeezed lately. I am sure many of you have had yours feel tight too.
Our family has been using our Homemade Pizza Dough and Homemade Pizza Sauce each and every Friday for the past few months. Friday night pizza from takeout was cut from our budget. Honestly, our from scratch recipes are better than delivery, they just require a bit of time.
Garlic Cheesy Breadsticks pair well with Pizza. Dip them in a Homemade Pizza Sauce or even a Ranch Dressing. They are also great alongside a pasta meal like our Baked Ziti.
Having a party? Make a couple batches of these easy breadsticks to serve your guests. Since they are an easy to hold finger food, I guarantee they will be devoured quickly.
I mentioned that I kept this recipe for Cheesy Breadsticks simple. Canned store-bought dough works perfectly for this recipe. Sure you can make homemade dough if you choose. But, I like to have quick recipes for busy weeknights.
Cheesy Breadsticks Ingredients
These Cheesy Breadsticks only require a handful of ingredients. The only thing you might not have on hand is the pizza crust but you can find it in most grocery stores. Here’s all you need:
- Butter – You can also sub olive oil for butter if you prefer the flavor.
- Garlic – Minced garlic from the jar is fine here. If you don’t want whole garlic in your breadsticks, you could also whip up something like our Easy Garlic Butter Spread and use that instead.
- Pizza Crust – For these Easy Cheesy Breadsticks, we like using this Pillsbury Pizza Crust. It’s really easy to work with and helps cut down on prep time! No need to make pizza dough from scratch for this recipe. But, if you would like to, my Homemade Pizza Dough is highly rated!
- Parmesan – Grated parmesan from a can or jar will work here. You’re more than welcome to use freshly-grated parmesan as well.
- Mozzarella – Normally we’d use freshly shredded mozzarella for a recipe like this. But we wanted to keep this recipe simple, and the pre-shredded mozzarella cheese ended up melting fine.
- Seasoning – We used some dried oregano here. You’re more than welcome to use something like Italian Seasoning instead! If you have fresh Oregano, it will be great too!
Dipping Sauce for these Cheesy Breadsticks is not necessary. If you prefer a dipping sauce to go with your breadsticks, try our Homemade Pizza Sauce?

How to make Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks
Once you have all your Cheesy Breadstick ingredients, whipping this recipe up couldn’t be much easier. Using that pre-made pizza crust really helps make this an extra easy recipe! To make pizza breadsticks for yourself, here’s what you need to do:
- Start by preparing your garlic butter. Melt butter slowly on the stovetop or in the microwave before mixing in garlic. You can optionally let this sit so that garlic can flavor the butter a bit.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment before opening pizza crust and rolling it out across the baking sheet.
- Spread garlic butter all across the pizza crust. Try to make this as even as you can and make sure there’s no big clumps of garlic.
- Measure out parmesan and then evenly sprinkle it over the pizza crust.
- Just like with the parm, measure out the mozzarella and evenly top the pizza crust with it.
- Top with oregano to finish things off. Use something like a pizza slicer or knife to slice the pizza crust– we went with 16 equal pieces. Bake in a 425 degree oven for around 10-15 minutes or until melted and bubbly. Slice again before serving.
Storage / Freezing
Storage: Since these Cheesy Breadsticks are effectively a cheese pizza, you’ll want to store them just like you would leftover pizza. We’d recommend keeping them in an airtight bag or container and putting them in the fridge. Expect them to last 3-4 days this way.
Freezing: You can also try freezing Cheesy Breadsticks like you would keep pizza frozen. Bake your breadsticks like normal but don’t cut them after they come out of the oven. Let cool completely, wrap in plastic wrap and/or aluminum foil, transfer to a freezer bag, and store in the freezer for 2-3 months.
Tips for the BEST Cheesy Breadsticks
