I love baking apple recipes during the fall months. Nothing beats having a home that smells like cinnamon and apples. When I made this Apple Pie Cheesecake Recipe this past week, my family knew there was something comforting baking. This was a recipe that I knew my family would love because they request my Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars every year, especially for Thanksgiving.
Making apple pie from scratch can seem a bit overwhelming. Do not let this recipe for Apple Cheesecake intimidate you. Making the apple pie filling from scratch takes just a small amount of effort.
Cheesecake recipes can intimidate some. This cream cheese mixture is so incredibly simple to make. There is no need for any sort of water baths or complicated recipe directions.
Apple Pie Cheesecake Ingredients
You might look at the ingredients for our Apple Pie Cheesecake recipe and get a little panicked. Don’t worry, you’ve probably got a lot of these ingredients already and there’s some overlap between the different pie fillings. For the apple pie filling, you’ll need the following:
- Apples – You’ll want to use the kind of apples you’d use for apple pie here, obviously. The best apples for apple pie are going to be baking apples: think Granny Smith apples, Honeycrisp apples, or Pink Lady apples.
- Lemon Juice
- Sugar – You can use brown sugar or some normal granulated sugar. Your preference. I personally love brown sugar in my homemade apple pie filling.
- Cornstarch – This will allow the sugars to thicken.
- Spices – You can go with something simple like cinnamon here or use some Homemade Apple Pie Spice instead.
For our cheesecake filling, you’ll need:
- Cream Cheese – Let this soften before use.
- Sugar – Plain white granulated sugar works best here.
- Eggs
Finally, for the streusel crumb topping, here’s what you need:
- Flour – All-purpose flour is fine.
- Sugar – You can use just light brown sugar or add in a bit of normal white sugar like we did.
- Oats – Use uncooked oats here and avoid instant or quick oats. Old fashioned oats will work best.
- Spices – Like with our apple pie filling, use some cinnamon and nutmeg or some apple pie spice.
- Butter – Keep COLD until ready to use in the recipe.
You’ll also need a deep dish pie crust for all these fillings. You can go store-bought or make our Easy Pie Crust instead. My crust was a 9 inch. Optionally, drizzle with store bought or Homemade Caramel Sauce before serving.

Apple Pie Cheesecake Recipe
Once we break down this Apple Pie Cheesecake recipe into its separate parts, you’ll realize it’s actually pretty easy to make. We’ll whip up some apple pie filling from scratch, make a cheesecake filling, some streusel topping, and bake it in the oven. To make this delicious Apple Cheesecake Pie yourself, here’s all you need to do:
- Peel, core, and slice apples before tossing with water and lemon juice to prevent browning. In a saucepan, whisk together some water and cornstarch before adding in apple pie spice.
- Add in the apple slices, water, and lemon juice from before and cook over low heat. Cook until apple slices are tender before setting aside to cool.
- To a large mixing bowl, add cream cheese and granulated sugar. Beat together with a hand or stand mixer until smooth.
- Add an egg to the cream cheese mixture.
- Beat until fully mixed in– but try to avoid overmixing if you can. Set aside.
- In a seperate bowl, combine flour, white sugar, brown sugar, oats, and apple pie spice.
- Cut COLD butter into smaller pieces before adding to the streusel ingredients. Use something like a dough blender, pastry cutter, or fork to work everything together into a crumbly topping.
- Try to crumble the topping down into pea-sized pieces if you can for best results.
- Take your pie crust and use a fork to poke plenty of holes in the bottom.
- Add your cream cheese cheesecake filling and spread across the bottom of the pie crust.
- Top the cheesecake layer with your homemade apple pie filling.
- Finally, evenly sprinkle your streusel crumble topping across the top of the Apple Pie Cheesecake.
- Consider topping your pie with a pie crust shield before setting in a preheated 375 degree oven. Bake for 40-45 minutes until browned and bubbling. Let cool on a wire rack for an hour before transferring to the fridge for another 2-3 hours.
Storage / Freezing
Storage: This Apple Pie Cheesecake is a pretty hearty pie, so it should last for a good little bit. Keep leftovers covered in the fridge or transfer slices to an airtight container for storage. Keep in the fridge for 3-5 days.
Freezing: You can also try keeping this as a Frozen Apple Cheesecake after it has cooked. Wrap tightly with plastic wrap and aluminum foil- either as a whole pie or individual slices- before keeping in the freezer. Store for up to 3 months and let thaw in the fridge overnight before eating.
Tips for the BEST Apple Pie Cheesecake
For the BEST Apple Pie Cheesecake I suggest using homemade pie crust and homemade apple pie filling. Oh.. also it’s best to not skip the crumb topping.
