We love whipping up all sorts of different little snacks and treats around Christmas time. Candy gifts are an easy way to round out those last few Christmas gifts you need to figure out but we also just love snacking on these candy recipes.

We’ve shown off a few of them recently: little treats like our Martha Washington Candy and Pretzel Hershey Kiss M&M Bites are so tasty! You can also try some classic candy recipes like Peanut Butter Fudge or Butter Toffee too if you want.

Recently though, we wanted to try out something similar to those M&M bites: something chocolatey and creamy on a crisp salty pretzel. That’s how we came up with these Rolo Pretzel Bites also known as Pretzel Rolo Delights.

Rolo Pretzel Bites Ingredients

Not only are these Rolo Pretzel Bites so easy to make, but they’re a 3-ingredient recipe as well! With that in mind, here’s all you’ll need:

Rolo Pretzel Bites Ingredients
  • Pretzels – We went with these pretzel mini twists. Any other mini pretzles- like pretzel snaps- will work too.
  • Rolo Candy – These creamy chocolate caramels are so tasty! If you don’t feel like unwrapping Rolos, save a bit of time by picking up one of the bags labelled “Rolo Unwrapped.” They’re the same as Rolos, just without the foil wrappers on them.
  • Pecan Halves – Using these pecan halves helps our Pretzel Rolo Bites look like a classic turtle candy.

How to make Rolo Pretzels

Process of how to make Rolo pretzels.

It’s going to be really easy to put these Rolo Pretzel Bites together for a holiday treat: all you really need is a baking sheet and an oven. Here’s what you’ll do:

  1. Set mini pretzels on a baking sheet. Unwrap Rolos and set one on top of each pretzel.
  2. Transfer baking sheet to a 250 degree oven. Let cook for 3-5 minutes or until Rolo candies have softened.
  3. Remove sheet from oven and gently press a pecan half into the top of each Rolo. Allow to cool and set completely before serving.

Substitutions

Even though these Rolo Pretzel Candies are a 3 ingredient dessert recipe, there’s a bit of wiggle room for substitutions if you need to make them. Here’s a few substitutions you can try out:

  • Pretzels – You can’t really make these Pretzels Rolo Candies without pretzels. With that in mind, you can use whatever kind of mini pretzels (even squared pretzels) you want. If you like, you can even make Rolo Delights without pretzels- maybe melt your rolos on something like parchment paper or a silpat to make things easy.
  • Rolos – Instead of going with normal Rolo candy, consider using the Dark Chocolate Rolo candies if you can find them. If you can’t find Rolos at all, you could also sub in some other chocolate candy. Use Mini Reese Cups, caramel-filled Hershey Kisses, normal Hershey Kiss candies, or Dove Promises.
  • Pecans – If you can’t find any pecan halves, there’s a few substitutes you can use. Walnuts are a great pecan substitute: they look, taste, and have a similar texture to pecans. Hazelnuts are another great option.

Variations

These tasty Rolo Pretzel Bites are pretty good already, but maybe you want to try something a little different- experiment a little. Here’s a couple ideas you can try to mix things up next time:

  • Rolo Pretzels with M&Ms – If you want to skip the nuts entirely, you could also try topping your Rolos with red and green M&M’s instead. Even better, using M&Ms means you can use the green and red M&Ms to get some Christmas colors going.
  • Chocolate Coated Rolo Pretzels – Another fun spin on this recipes involves dipping your finished pretzel bites in some chocolate. Melt some chocolate and mix with some coconut oil to turn it into an easy chocolate coating. After making your Rolo bites, give them a quick dip in this chocolate coating and let set before serving.

Storage / Freezing

Storage: All the ingredients in our Rolo Pretzel Bites are pretty shelf-stable on their own. Seeing as we didn’t melt the Rolos too much or mix anything extra in, these will last quite a while. Keep them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Kept like this, you’ll probably get a good month or two out of them- maybe even three!

Freezing: We really don’t see much of a need to freeze these. They’ll last quite a while, even without refrigeration, and freezing them might mess with the chocolate and caramel in the Rolos. Just keep them airtight as much as you can and you’ll be able to enjoy these for a long while.

Top tip

Do not add much pressure when adding your pecan half to the melted Rolo.
