Bat Cupcake Ingredients

The ingredients needed for your Bat Cupcakes are pretty simple. You can grab everything in most any grocery store. You most likely have the majority of the items needed already on hand in your pantry. If you prefer to make the recipe even quicker, skip the homemade frosting and use a store-bought frosting container.

Halloween Oreo Bat Cupcake ingredients.
  • Chocolate Cake Mix – There’s plenty of options out there for cake mix, like Duncan Hines cake mix or Pillsbury cake mix. We went with this Chocolate Fudge cake mix from Betty Crocker.
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Butter
  • Powdered Sugar – If you have the time, sift your sugar beforehand.
  • Powdered Cocoa – We’re going to add some of this to our butter and sugar to make a chocolate buttercream frosting. We prefer to use a 100% cacao cocoa powder here, since we’ll be adding plenty of sugar already.
  • Oreo Cookies – You’ll want to grab both the full sized Oreos as well as some Oreo Minis. We’ll be using the full-sized Oreo cookies to make our bat wings and for the chocolate wafer crumble that we’ll coat our cupcake tops with. The mini Oreos we’ll use to make the “body” of the bat on the top of the cupcakes.
  • Milk– if you want to thin the buttercream frosting out a bit
  • Decorative candy eyes. The eyes make for a fun finishing touch that makes your cupcakes look a just a bit cuter!

  • Using a sharp knife, cut the full sized Oreos in half to make bat wings. Then add the rest to food processor. If you don’t have one, toss them in a plastic bag and run a rolling pin over them to crush them finely.

  • Top your cooled cupcakes with the chocolate buttercream frosting before rolling them in your crushed Oreos. You’re aiming to get a nice, even coating of the Oreo crumbs all over the tops of your cupcakes.

  • Take your reserved Oreo halves and stick them into either side of the mound of frosting on top of each cupcake. These are the “wings” of the bat.
  • Finally, press an Oreo Mini into the space just in front of where the two “wings” meet. Stick on a couple of candy eyes with a bit of the frosting. if you’re using any and your Halloween Bat Cupcakes are complete. Enjoy!

Storage / Freezing

Storage: If you’re making this Raspberry Cream Pie as a make ahead recipe or have leftovers, you’ll want to store it in the fridge. Cover with plastic wrap or keep in a resealable container before transferring to the fridge. It should keep for 3-4 days.

Freezing: Freezing the leftover cheesecake pie works too! Wrap Cream Pie in plastic wrap and foil to prevent freezer burn and keep frozen for 1-2 months- let thaw in the fridge before enjoying.
