Ingredients for Pumpkin Crescent Roll Twists

There’s no special or secret ingredients you need to make these tasty Pumpkin Crescent Roll Twists for yourself- it’s just like making Pumpkin Pie with a twist! Really, it’s a bunch of fridge and pantry staples- plus some classic fall ingredients. Here’s everything you’re going to need:

  • Pumpkin Puree – Canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling).
  • Brown Sugar
  • Pumpkin Spice – Don’t have any on hand? Check to see if you have the ingredients for our Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice instead!
  • Crescent Dough Sheets – You could also use traditional crescent rolls… just be sure to pinch together the seems in the dough.
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Powdered Sugar – Or confectioners’ sugar. We just need the kind of sugar you’d make an icing with, so avoid granulated sugar.
  • Milk
  • Vanilla Extract – Just for a touch of extra flavor.

How to make Easy Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls

These Pumpkin Twists might look like they’re hard but they’re actually a really easy to make dessert recipe! We’ve also got plenty of pictures here to help you through it. Here’s all you need to do:

  • Mix your pumpkin puree, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice together in a mixing bowl until combined. Open the crescent dough sheets and roll one out on a cutting board. Spread the pumpkin filling evenly across the top of the rolled out crescent sheet.

  • Roll out the second dough sheet and set it on top of the pumpkin filling on the bottom sheet. Gently press the sheets together.

  • Use something like a pizza cutter or a sharp knife to cut the sheets into 8 seperate pieces.

  • Cut these 8 pieces down the middle but stop about 1/2-inch from the end. This will leave you with 8 pieces that each have these two strands.

  • For each dough piece, twist the two strands together.

  • To turn these Pumpkin Twists into something like a pumpkin cinnamon roll, roll them up from the cut-end first.

  • Roll the twists up nice and tight until only the uncut tail-end is all that’s left.

  • Lift and tuck the tail-end underneath the rolled up pumpkin twist.

  • Repeat for all 8 Pumpkin Twists and set on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  • Melt butter and brush it evenly over all the Pumpkin Pie Twists.

  • Whisk together granulated sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar evenly over all the Pumpkin Twists.

  • Put the rolls in a waiting 375 degree oven and bake for 10 minutes– the rolls will just start to brown. While rolls bake, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla together to form a quick icing.

  • Drizzle icing over finished Pumpkin Twists while they’re still warm. Serve and enjoy!

Storage / Freezing

Storage: Let any leftover Pumpkin Crescent Rolls cool to room temperature before transferring to an airtight container or bag. Keep in the fridge for 3-5 days.

Freezing: If you want to keep your Pumpkin Pie Twists frozen, let them cool completely before “flash freezing” them. Pop them on a parchment lined sheet and put in the freezer for 30-45 minutes to keep them from sticking together once frozen. Transfer to a freezer bag or freezer-safe container and keep frozen for 1-2 months. Let thaw in the fridge before reheating in the oven for best results.

Tips for the BEST Pumpkin Pie Crescent Roll Twists

Pumpkin Twists

Servings: 8 servings

Ingredients 

  • 1/2 cup Pumpkin Puree
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp Pumpkin Spice
  • 16 oz Crescent Roll Dough Sheets, 2 cans
  • 2 tbsp melted Butter
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla

Instructions 

  • Preheat the oven to 375 and line a cookie sheet parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, brown sugar and pumpkin spice until blended.
  • Unroll and spread out one of the crescent roll dough sheets on a cutting board.
  • Spread the pumpkin mixture evenly over the crescent dough.
  • Unroll and place the second sheet of dough over the first and press them together.
  • Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the into 8 pieces.
  • Cut each of these strips down the middle again but stop 1/2″ from the end of the dough. Take each of these and twist the two strands of dough together all the way down.
  • Take the cut end and tuck it under while creating a roll.
  • Continue wrapping the dough into a roll and tuck the uncut end under at the end.
  • Place rolls on prepared pan.
  • Whisk together cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.
  • Brush each roll with melted butter.
  • Sprinkle each with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Bake for 10 minutes.
  • Combine powdered sugar, milk and vanilla in a medium bowl and whisk until blended.
  • Drizzle the icing over the rolls while still warm.
