Easy Banana Cream Pie
on Feb 03, 2016, Updated Oct 21, 2020
This Easy Banana Cream Pie is one of my favorite quick and easy desserts. Since we use a store-bought crust and instant banana pudding, it can be made in a jiffy.
Easy Banana Cream Pie
When spring weather arrives, my hubby and I are all about cream pies. Banana Cream Pie and my Homemade Coconut Cream Pie are his favorite evening desserts. When I have time, I can make my super simple 4 Ingredient Pie Crust. But when I am looking to make a quick and no mess pie, I will use store-bought crust.
The weather has been so nice here in Cincinnati this week. All of the Easter goodies are starting to arrive at the stores. I love that it is starting to feel like spring. Cream Pie makes for a perfect spring dessert.
Hubby put in a request for a pie for dessert and I didn’t hesitate. I whipped up this easy banana cream pie in just a few minutes time, tossed it in the fridge to firm, and we had some delicious easy pie for evening dessert.
Since Easter will be here before we know it, this pie would be great for you to whip up for holiday dessert. It’s so easy and requires very little effort.
The pie starts with a layer of bananas in the crust, creamy filling, and topped with whipped topping. Creamy banana filling is one of the best comfort foods. YUM!
This is one of the simplest pies to make. You will need either a Homemade Pie Crust or a store-bought, banana pudding, Cool-Whip, and some bananas. So incredibly easy!
Ingredients to Make Easy Banana Cream Pie
- Ready-Made Pie Crust or Easy Homemade Pie Crust
- Instant Banana Cream Pudding (3.4 oz)
- Milk
- Cool Whip
- Bananas
How to Make Banana Cream Pie
First, you will need to preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Then, par-bake the crust for 10-15 minutes. Remove from the oven when golden brown edges have been achieved. Let the crust cool.
Next, combine the milk and pudding mix and whisk until thickened (about 2 minutes).
You will now need to fold in about 2/3 of the container of the whipped topping.
Now, slice 2 bananas and layer in the bottom of the prepared crust.
Transfer the pudding mixture to the banana filled pie crust and chill for at least one hour.
For the next step, top the chilled pie with the remaining whipped topping.
Then, slice the remaining banana and garnish the pie.

I’m from Australia and we don’t have the product Cool Whip. We probably have something similar, if you could describe what it is.
thanks
Redi Whip or Whipped Cream!
Not sure how anyone had any issues with this recipe, you visibly showed the ingredients and explained it thoroughly. Anyhow, this is the second time I made this and it’s delicious, the only modification I made is I use crumbled nilla wafers as garnish in lieu of bananas.
I made this for my fathers birthday! I was running short on milk so I used a splash of half and half. Everyone kept going back for more! I should’ve made two! So yummy and so easy! Thank you!
I just made this for my husband for Father’s Day. My husband is my biggest fan and critic. He absolutely loved it and said it was waaaay better than any store bought pie. Take that Marie! Thanks!
Perfect! My father-in-law’s favorite thing in the whole wide world is Banana Cream Pie. I was in search for a quick and easy one I could make for him. My daughter (10 years old) and I are going to make this for him for Father’s Day!
That looks amazing! I wish I could have some for breakfast right now. Thanks for sharing with us at Funtastic Friday!

Hi Jen, What a beautiful pie and I bet it tastes as good as it looks! Thanks for sharing your recipe! Blessings, Janet
Does this recipe make one or two pies?
hi,what if dont hav the pudding mix-so than how can we make it with ingredients from our pantry
Originally I thought it was n going to work , but I realized that I did not use the instant pudding. I cooked the pudding until it started to thicken, then I added the Cool Whip. I put it in the refrigerator till it came cooled, then followed the instructions as written. It turned out perfect!!!
Thanks
Jim
The banana cream pie became a runny mess for me. Did not get firm. Very disappointed since I served it to 3 other couples.
Try adding 4 ounces of softened cream cheese to the pudding mix, and follow directions on pudding box. This is INSTANT !!! Do not cook!!!
I added the cream cheese instead of Cool Whip and I also used the sugar free pudding and sugar free Cool Whip for the topping since my family had diabetic members and it worked great. The best pie I ever made, I did have to use the mix master to add the cream cheese to the pudding to make it smooth, but it was really good. Thanks
If you licked the spoon while stirring it will turn liquidy bc of the tiny bit of saliva put back into the bowl digests the pudding while it’s waiting to be eaten. I made this mistake with baby food pudding and was told this. It’s true.it happens with anything made with cornstarch and maybe other carbohydrates. I just make sure I always rinse off the spoon after tasting.
was the pudding supposed to be cooked on stove top? It did not thicken. Followed recipe exactly. Thoughts on what I could do to save the pudding/milk mix? TIA
The instructions say Combine milk and pudding mix and whisk until thickened (about 2 minutes). which would indicate instant pudding mix, and not the cook and serve pudding.
Mine was runny to when I made it but thickened up in fridge overnight!
How far in advance can you make this?
Can you substitute the milk with coconut milk or another non-dairy alternative? Looks delicious
Is that instant pudding mix?
I made this piece once. I did not use instant pudding. It came out very runny. So yes I would use instant.
Hey Girl,
One look at this banana cream pie makes me so hungry. It reminds me of banana pudding. YUM!!
Thanks for sharing!
