Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie

This 2 Ingredient Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie is so easy to make. We use store bought cinnamon rolls and canned apple pie filling to keep it so simple.
Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie
Store bought cinnamon rolls are so versatile. The recipe ideas can be endless. You can do a google search and find so many different recipes that start of with canned cinnamon rolls. Turn them into a breakfast Cinnamon Roll French Toast Casserole or even this Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie.
I spotted the most amazing looking cinnamon roll apple pie over on Tasty. As soon as I had seen the video, I knew I needed to make it. I thought it would make for a perfect fall dessert and maybe even an addition to our Thanksgiving pie list. I tried making the pie two different times. Each time I made their version, I had a liquid crust that was so soggy. YUCK!
The pie that I made twice following the Tasty recipe used fresh apples. I came to the conclusion that their pie filling was just not going to work with the cinnamon roll crust. Their pie filling was just liquifying too much. I considered using my own Homemade Apple Pie Filling to see if it would be too much liquid but I was seriously tired of trying to make this recipe work.
I use canned apple pie filling for recipes like my Caramel Apple Pie Cookies. Most of the time I use it so I can have quick and easy recipes. I know when I use the store bought stuff, it does not end up with too much liquid after baking. Ahah…. that was the answer. I decided to make our Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie with just 2 ingredients. Third time making this pie was the charm.
After making the pie with those two simple ingredients, the pie came out perfect. No liquid soggy crust. Plus, it was so much easier and less time consuming to make. Sure, homemade apple recipes are great but this time, the homemade apple pie filling was just not going to work with the cinnamon roll crust.
I mentioned you will need store bought cinnamon rolls and canned apple pie filling to make this 2 Ingredient Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie. I did not use the Grands sized cinnamon rolls like Tasty. Rather, I used the normal sized cinnamon rolls. I also pre-baked my crust to help cut down on any possibility of a soggy crust.I love that I did not even need to make my own icing. To top the pie, we use the frosting that comes with the cinnamon rolls. You can choose plain frosting but I chose to use the cinnamon rolls with the cream cheese frosting. So simple. I did sprinkle just a little bit of cinnamon on top of my apples before adding the top crust. I was sure to leave just a little bit of an opening on the top crust to allow the pie to vent some too.

That looks absolutely amazing! Pinned.
I made this pie for Thanksgiving, but the top crust was soggy when I took it to lunch the next day. Is there a way to keep it from getting soggy? They asked me to make it again for Christmas.
Hi Tiffany! I am not quite sure how to handle that one. I have such a large family that we never have much for leftovers with most everything I make. Did you store it at room temperature? You could possibly keep it in the refrigerator overnight and then pre-bake before serving. Just be sure to use aluminum foil on top when baking so the crust does not burn. I hope that helps. Merry Christmas to you!
