Apple Dumplings
on Jul 21, 2015, Updated Oct 21, 2020
This super Easy Apple Dumplings recipe happens to be one of my favorite year round desserts. Since the recipe uses store bought crescent rolls, it comes together quite easily. You will find Mountain Dew as a secret ingredient. The soda adds some additional sugar to the recipe and allows them to bake perfectly.
Apple Dumplings
Fall foods are on my mind and I have been sharing some great apple recipes with all of you this past week. I bought a ton of apples last week and decided I would go on a comfort food dessert run. I will say, I have probably gained a few pounds but my family has been happy campers. The hubby and kiddos really enjoy most any dessert that includes apples in the ingredient list. The Caramel Apple Pie Cookies were gone within minutes.
I really like making quick and easy desserts that use store bought biscuits or dough. I find no reason to spend hours in the kitchen making dough when something store bought can work great when I am pressed for time.
Dumplings always remind me of my childhood. Growing up, we would enjoy dumplings stuffed with all sorts of different fruits. Apple Dumplings were always my favorite. A hot apple dumpling makes for a perfect dessert.
Since we have a large family, having a large dish filled with dumplings will feed just us, ha ha. If you are needing to feed a small crowd this recipe will be perfect. I am considering making a couple batches for our next holiday gathering.
The store bought crescent rolls work so perfectly in this recipe. I quite often buy a bunch when they are on sale. During the fall and winter months they are great for making desserts, snacks like our Pepperoni Pizza Crescents or even just as a side with dinner.
You too can whip up this super Easy Apple Dumplings recipe. Just grab some store bought crescent rolls, some apples (I used granny smith), butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. In just a few minutes time, you can have your home smelling like fall.

Can I use can apple pie filling instead of apple slices?? Please advise.
I must be missing, but why Mountain Dew? Wouldโt you just be making the dough soggy?
Just made this and added cinnamon and sugar inside the croissant with the apple. Delicious!
I will try these, they really look good.
I made this over the weekend and aha tonight! Simple and easy and Delicious! I did use only a half cup of sugar and 3/4 cups of apple juice instead of soda! Came out great!!
Can I Use Red Delicious apples?
Hi Maggie! Any variety of apples will work. You will get different flavor profiles from Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Red Delicious, etc. I hope you enjoy:)
Could I use water instead of Mountain Dew. As other posters have stated, I really don’t understand the use of Mountain Dew…
These are sooo good, I only made 1/2 recipe and almost cut back even more on the Mountain Dew , like many others it seemed like it was too much but I didn’t and was glad I didn’t. I did use “diet” Mountain Dew however and I don’t think it mattered on taste. This is definitely a keeper! Thank you,
Wow, easy to make and very tasty. I was wondering why so much soda and was tempted not to put the full amount. Iโm glad I did.
Made these tonight. Needed a little more cinnamon ( but I LOVE cinnamon) but other than that they were delicious!
I donโt understand the use of Mountain Dew.
Is there anyway you can make this ahead of time or at least the sauce ahead of time?
When I am making these for you work dessert, I will wrap the apples and placed them in a buttered pan at night. (I, too, roll my apple slices in a light sugar/cinnamon mixture before wrapping in dough.) Then I cover my 9×13 tight and store in fridge. I put my butter in a sauce pan and put in microwave, and measure out my sugar and put in a covered bowel.
In the morning Iโll take out & uncover my pan, put my butter on stove while oven oven is heating up. I let my butter cook till melted, then a little longer like as if making brown butter. (It give butter a deeper, almost nutty flavor. Then, I add my sugar and measure out my spices (I use cinnamon and nutmeg, and vanilla) and cook down till thick. It bakes while I get ready and has just about 1/2 to cool before needing to leave house.
My coworkers love the warm โapple pieโ in the morning.
Having some of this prepped the night before allows me a jumpstart bc mornings are already chaotic even without baking.
This is one of my most favorite desserts ever! I have a similar recipe and it never disappoints. Thanks so much for sharing at the #HomeMattersParty
I’ve made apple desserts like this and the kids love it. Thanks for sharing on Merry Monday.

These look delicious! I love apple anything! #MerryMonday
Those look so yummy! Thanks for sharing with us at Funtastic Friday!
This is my fav way to make apple dumplings! Well, we usually use Sierra Mist, but I think any lemon lime soda works :) I haven’t made them in awhile, but this post has me craving them now sooooo I think I know what I’ll be making this weekend! haha
Looks yummy! I’d love to make it but in The Netherlands we don’t have Mountain Dew. Could I replace it with Seven Up or do you have another suggestion?
I used Sprite, it worked just fine. Read somewhere else that any lemon/lime soda would work and I believe it is so.
Yes you can use any clear soda pop.
yes 7-up will do. Actually some recipes call for 7-up
I prefer my apples to have a little cinnamon sprinkles on them before I roll them up.
The apple dumplings look so good. I can’t wait to try the recipe. Thanks so much!
