Oreo Cupcakes
Cupcakes are some of our favorite baked dessert recipes to make. They’re often much easier to make than cakes or pies and- the best part- it’s all portioned out for everyone to enjoy! One of our go-to ways for making cupcakes is to actually use a boxed cake mix and make a few small changes to make the cake mix taste better. We’ve done this before in a few other recipes and today we’ll be doing it again with one of our favorite dessert flavors: cookies and cream. That’s right, we’re making some Oreo Cupcakes!
Right away, there’s no reason to be intimidated by this recipe: it’s super easy. For the most part, you’ll just be following along with the instructions on your cake mix- with a few small tweaks made like adding milk and egg whites. Of course, we’re going to add plenty of Oreo cookies as well- we’ll fold some in with the cupcake batter and we’ll even add some to a buttercream frosting! If you want to go Oreo crazy, you can even have an Oreo garnish or sprinkle some crumbled Oreos on top.
These sweet treats are great for any sort of party or get-together. If your kids love Oreos, they’d definitely prefer these to some store-bought birthday cake. Really, I’ll find an excuse to make these- for how easy they are to make, they’re way too good! This is an easy cupcake recipe that I’m certain all of you are going to enjoy.

Egg Whites – We use egg whites just to keep the cupcakes from getting discolored. If you don’t mind this, you can use whole eggs instead.

How to make Oreo Cupcakes
-
Follow the instructions on the cake mix packaging, using milk instead of water. Fold 10 roughly-chopped Oreos into the cake batter before pouring batter into a lined cupcake pan.
-
While cupcakes bake, prepare buttercream icing by beating together butter and powdered sugar. Add and mix in milk or heavy cream then fold in 8 finely chopped Oreos.
-
Allow cupcakes to cool before using a piping bag to top with buttercream frosting. Optionally garnish with an Oreo or a mini Oreo.
We’ll start by making up our cupcake batter. Beat the cake mix together with the eggs, oil, and milk until you have a consistent batter.
Once you have a batter, take about 10 Oreos- roughly chopped- and fold them into the batter. With the batter all mixed up, you can pour it into a lined cupcake pan, filling the tins evenly. Bake according to the packaging’s instructions.
While the cupcakes bake, get started on the frosting. Take your softened butter and beat it until it’s nice and creamy.
After creaming the butter, start adding in the powdered sugar. Keep beating until fully combined.
Once the two are mixed, you can add in your milk or heavy cream. Use a mixer to beat it in as well.
The last thing our frosting needs is some finely chopped or crushed Oreos. You’ll need about 8 of them: break them down as fine as you can.
Take the crushed Oreos and fold them into your buttercream icing. Keep folding until your icing is evenly freckled with little piece of Oreo cookies.
After baking your cupcakes, let them cool completely before topping them with frosting.
Hope you enjoy!

I love these cupcakes! I use shortening instead of butter when I have made it before. But this way is just as good!
