Since it was so cold today, we made this Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup to enjoy for dinner. I was excited to share this recipe with all of you as I am a HUGE fan of split pea with ham soup. Some people are fans of pea soup, others are not. But, if you are a fan… this slow cooker split pea soup is going to be one of your favorites.
Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup
The recipe is so simple, just layer your ingredients into your slow cooker and let it cook and you will have some yummy soup. You can use a ham bone in this recipe but, I decided I wanted quick and easy and purchased some pre-diced ham to speed up the process. I am thinking next time I will try the recipe with a left over ham bone from one of our meals.
1 lb Dried Split Peas
2 cups Diced Ham
1/2 cup chopped Onion
2 tsp Minced Garlic
1 bay leaf
2 tsp Parsley Flakes
1 tsp Celery Salt
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper
6 cups hot Water
Rinse the split peas and add to slow cooker.
Peel and slice carrots and add to slow cooker.
Add remaining ingredients to slow cooker.
Cook on low 8-10 hours.
Remove bay leaf.
This soup was great with bread (Yes, I have to dip, ha ha). I considered adding potatoes to this recipe and may try that next time. Sometimes I like potatoes, sometimes I do not, lol. My daughter and I really enjoyed this recipe and plan to eat it again tomorrow for lunch. Simply perfect for the cold days we have been having.
