Candy Apple Recipe

This Candy Apple Recipe was a perfect treat last evening! I have been begging the hubby to make us up some candy apples for weeks now. I am a huge candy apple fan. Candy apples always remind me of fall and my childhood. My mother would make up up a batch every Halloween. She would load them up with peanuts too! YUM! We made some Caramel Apples a few weeks ago that I shared and they were delish. But, I knew fall just could not be complete without candy apples.
Candy Apple Recipe
I think candy apples are one of those items that you either love or hate! My oldest son will never eat them as they are “to hard” for him, lol. I personally love the hard candy crunch mixed with a tasty juicy apple.
This Candy Apple Recipe would be perfect for a Halloween Party! I am going to have the hubby make another batch a day or two before our little Halloween party this year. I know they will be popular.
My hubby says it is important to be sure you have organic apples for this recipe (there will be no wax coating on the organics). If you do not have organic (non-waxed) be sure to scrub the wax coating off your apples.
INGREDIENTS
6 Organic Apples
6 Wooden Skewers, Lollipop or Popsicle sticks
2 Cups White Sugar
1/4 Cup Light Corn Syrup
1 Cup Water
Red Food Coloring
DIRECTIONS
If you don’t buy organic apples, you will need to remove the wax to allow candy to stick.
To remove wax, boil 6 cups water with 1 teaspoon or vinegar. Remove from heat. Dip apple in water and dry completely.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and spray with non stick spray.
Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.
Insert the sticks in the apples.
Heat sugar, corn syrup and water over medium heat.
Cook until a candy thermometer reaches 300 (hard crack).
Remove from the heat and stir in the optional food coloring (watch out for splashing).
Carefully dip each apple into the candy mixture, twirling to completely cover.
Allow excess to drip back into pan.
Place on prepared sheet and allow them to harden.
Our Candy Apples were a bright shade of red for a spooky/traditional look. You could make yours pink, green, etc. PS- If you should try this recipe the candy on these apples will be very hard. I am not legally responsible for any dental visits, ha ha! My hubby likes to cut off wedges of his candy apple to have bite sized pieces.
