Make your own Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix with just a few ingredients. No need to purchase store bought envelopes. Perfect for keeping on hand during cold weather.
Hot Cocoa Mix
Cold weather has arrived. My kiddos really like to enjoy a nice cup of hot cocoa after school. I normally will purchase individual packets when they are on sale. This past week while doing my grocery shopping, there were no sales to be had. One box of cocoa does not go very far in my house. Rather than purchasing the over priced box of envelopes, I decided to just make this larger canister for the kiddos to use for the next week. Yes, it goes super quick with this large family.
This recipe was perfect. Sweet but not overly sweet. The powdered sugar and the powdered milk really gave the hot cocoa a nice texture. The kiddos really enjoyed it and had no issues scooping the correct amount for each of their cups. The only complaint I received was the tiny marshmallows were not present. I plan to pick up one of those small canisters of the fake marshmallows to add to the next batch to satisfy the kiddos.
I had everything right in my pantry to whip up this batch. Super simple and just a few minutes time and I had an inexpensive batch of Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix. Please note, NO Vanilla is needed for this recipe even know it is in the ingredient shot, I was a bit flaky and rushed when I snapped this picture, lol.

2 1/2 cup Powdered Milk
2 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar

Hi. Thank you for the recipes. They are greatly appreciated. How long can you keep the hot chocolate and pancake mixes?
How long can you store this?
I have been looking for a hit chocolate mix recipe and gave come across two separate ones that call for corn starch. What does the cornstarch do?
Hi there, what I have learnt while using corn starch to some of my dessert recipes is that it gives creamy texture and gives little thick consistency.
What does the corn starch add to the recipe?
This looks so good. What does the cornstarch do?
Adding cornstarch to the mix will help keep it from caking up and it will also make the hot cocoa creamy smooth.
Thanks for the recipe, be great to have on hand.
This is awesome, we love to have instant hot chocolate on hand all winter, but I like knowing what’s in it and this way I will feel better about us having it so often. And the jars are adorable with the chalkboard labels! Pinning!
