Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers

We are HUGE fans of Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. I have to admit that I quite often order our sandwiches from a local chain. I shared our recipe for Philly Cheesesteak Sliders with you quite some time ago.

If I am making Philly’s at home, I will use that recipe.  When I make them at home, everyone likes to add in their favorite toppings. The hubby and I love to add in mushrooms and banana peppers. YUMMY!

I spend quite a bit of time on Pinterest. Many moons ago, I saw this idea for Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers. I do not quite recall where that recipe is so I whipped up our own using our meat recipe

I LOVE this recipe. No bread is needed. The hardest part of making homemade Philly Cheesesteaks is finding the right bread. I never have much luck.

We have all the flavors you will find in the sandwich stuffed right inside of a bell pepper that has been halved. So simple and makes for a perfect quick and easy dinner on busy weeknights.

Grab a cut of beef. In this recipe, I used a London Broil because that was what was on sale. You will also need some green peppers (red works too), onions, a few spices, and any other Philly toppings you enjoy most.

INGREDIENTS
2 Bell Peppers, seeded and split lengthwise
3/4 cup Water
3 tbsp Butter
1/2 large Onion, sliced
1/2 tbsp minced Garlic
2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 lb London Broil, sliced
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper
8 slices Provolone Cheese

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400.
Put water in 8×8″ baking dish.
Place peppers face down in dish.
Bake for 10-15 minutes.
Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat.
Add onions and garlic to skillet and cook until slightly softened.
Add Worcestershire, meat, salt and pepper.
Cook until meat is no longer pink.
Drain peppers and turn face up.
Place 1 slice of cheese in each pepper half.
Drain excess moisture from meat.
Fill each with meat mixture and top with another slice of cheese.
Bake in oven an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted and is beginning to brown.
