My family loves creamy chicken dinners and this Marry Me Chicken Recipe is no exception. It quickly became one of their favorite chicken dishes lately. My husband said it is one of the BEST Chicken recipes he has ever had. Since everyone loves it, it has been added to our meal rotation.

This Creamy chicken dish has become quite popular on Tik Tok lately. After seeing the ingredients, I knew why the recipe became so popular. If you search for this chicken recipe, you will find quite a few different variations. After a bit of taste testing, I think I figured out the BEST Marry Me Chicken recipe.

Many flavor combinations are combined in this chicken recipe. We cook the chicken breasts until they are tender and juicy. Then cook them in a creamy sauce consisting of heavy cream, parmesan cheese, sun- dried tomatoes, and a few spices. This one pan meal is so quick and easy and perfect for a busy weeknight dinner.

  • Chicken Breasts – We’re going to cutting these in half like we’re butterflying them. Sometimes you can find chicken breasts pre-cut like this at the store sold as chicken cutlets- feel free to pick some of these up to save on time!
  • Flour – We use this for coating the chicken before cooking.
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Butter – Or another oil like vegetable, grapeseed, or maybe even an olive oil.
  • Garlic – We used minced garlic from the jar. If you do not have any on hand, you could use tsp of garlic powder.
  • Onion
  • Chicken Broth
  • Heavy Cream – If you’re worried about calories or fat, you could replace all or half of the heavy cream with half-and-half. Note that this is going to make the sauce much less creamy.
  • Parmesan – Fresh parmesan preferred here.
  • Sun-Dried Tomatoes
  • Seasoning – We went with red pepper flake, oregano, and thyme. We also top our finished dish off with a garnish of fresh chopped basil.

How to Make Easy Marry Me Chicken

This Easy Marry Me Chicken recipe is quick to make. Here’s all you’ll have to do:

  1. Cut chicken breasts in half before dredging in flour mixed with salt and pepper. Cook the coated chicken breasts in butter over medium heat about 3-5 minutes per side until fully cooked. Remove from pan and set aside.
  2. Add your garlic and onions and cook until fragrant and translucent. Deglaze pan with chicken stock before adding heavy cream, parmesan, and stirring to combine.
  3. Stir in tomatoes, red pepper flake, oregano, and thyme. Cook sauce until thickened to preference before adding chicken back to pan. Cook with sauce over medium-high heat until warmed back through before topping with basil and serving.

Variations for Marry Me Chicken

  • Use a different cut of chicken for this recipe. Feel free to sub in something like chicken tenderloin or chicken thighs if you prefer it over chicken breasts- you’ll probably have to cook them a minute or two longer.
  • Make your Marry Me Chicken Spicy – If this recipe seems like it’s missing “something,” it might need an extra touch of spice or heat! Try adding in a couple glugs of hot sauce, a half teaspoon of cayenne, or topping with some extra red pepper flake to warm this dish up.
  • Add thin sliced mushrooms. If you are a fan of mushrooms they will add a bit of a savory flavor profile.
  • If you are fan of baby spinach, go ahead and toss some into your sauce.

I can not find any really clear answers for the name Marry Me Chicken, The most beliveable answer is that it is Italian inspired dish.

Why is it called “Marry Me Chicken”?

It is also believed that the name Marry Me Chicken is that is so tasty, that it could make a partner propose marriage to cook. I am betting that it really is just the result of someone needing a catchy name for their chicken recipe, lol.

Can I make it ahead of time?

This chicken dish is best when served immediately after it is cooked. The sauce is best when fresh. But, it can be made ahead of time and reheated.

Tips for Making the Marry Me Chicken

  1. Save time by prepping all of your ingredients. Shred the cheese, dice the sun-dried tomatoes and onions. Have the heavy cream ready before you start cooking the chicken.
  2. Be sure to slice your chicken in half. The chicken must be thin to have thoroughly cooked juicy and tender chicken breasts.
  3. Use a block of parmesan cheese and shred yourself. The pre-shredded cheese will not result in the best cream sauce.
  4. Be sure you are using a high fat content heavy cream or the sauce will not become creamy.

Storage, Leftovers and Reheating

  • Storage: Keep your leftover Marry Me chicken in the refrigerator. You will need to store in an airtight container. We do not recommend freezing creamy chicken.
  • Leftovers: The leftover chicken can keep in the fridge for about 3-4 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat the chicken and sauce over a low simmer in a pan on the stovetop. If needed, add a bit of milk or cream to loosen the sauce.Add splashes of milk or cream to help loosen the sauce. If you would like to reheat quickly, use the microwave and cook in 30 second intervals.

Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients 

  • 2 large Chicken Breasts
  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tsp minced Garlic
  • 1/2 cup diced Onion
  • 1 cup Chicken Stock
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 1/3 cup Sun Dried Tomatoes chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1/2 tsp Oregano
  • 1/8 tsp Thyme
  • 1 tbsp fresh Basil

Instructions 

  • Cut each chicken breast in half like you were butterflying them.
  • Whisk together flour, salt and pepper in a bowl or xippered bag.
  • Dredge chicken in flour mixture shaking off excess.
  • Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook chicken in pan for 3-5 minutes until golden brown on bottom. Turn and cook until other side is golden brown. Make sure chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165.
  • Transfer chicken to a plate and set aside.
  • Add garlic and onion and cook until onions are translucent.
  • Add chicken stock and deglaze pan.
  • Add heavy cream and parmesan cheese and stir until well blended.
  • Add sun dried tomatoes, red pepper, oregano and thyme. Stir to incorporate.
  • Cook until sauce thickens.
  • Add back in the cooked chicken and cook about 5 minutes to allow chicken to get hot.
  • Remove from heat and top with fresh basil.
