I am definite going to make this recipe. The last time that we wanted KFC pot pies they said they no longer sell them. That being said, I was excited when I came across this recipe.
I made this yesterday and it was a real hit in my household. I made a few minor changes; I used a bag of thawed peas and carrots. I also added about a tablespoon of onion flakes. Instead of individual pies, I used an 8 by 8 glass dish. I see where another person baked the bottom of their pastry first. I’ll have to remember to do that the next time!
Will it mess up thr crust if I brush it with butter?
The crust used by KFC is the best part of the pie. I tried using just 2 sheets of puff pastry and it wasn’t even close to KFC’s crust. I watched a KFC video of how they make the pot pies and at the end of the video, it simply says they cover it with a frozen crust. Does anyone know what frozen crust they use? Obviously it is not frozen pie crust because none of them are flakey enough. I tried using more than 2 sheets of puff pastry and that didn’t work either. Help please to find the frozen KFC crust on the pot pies. Thank you!!
Hi Picky Crust! I am sorry that this recipe didn’t work for you. I would do some searching to see if maybe you can find another crust that you might like better. There are many bloggers that have tried to replicate. I hope that you find one that works well for you. If I have time next month, I will see if I can do some more experimenting for you. Have a great day- Jen
I’m with Picky, I don’t see Puff pastry working, unless you are making Baklava!
I used the 15 minute puffed pastry recipe on Pinterest, it was delicious! A little bit of fuss but well worth the effort! Better than KFC by far! I did use the inside recipe here though, it was just amazing and very yummy! Enjoy!
Hi Picky Crust, I’m a picky cruster too
I always use the pie crust that’s on the can, or used to be on the can of Crisco. Just Google it and you’ll find it. It’s the best pie crust that I’ve ever eaten in my life and I’ve made pie crust for 50 years but I’ve never found one as good as the old Crisco recipe.
God bless
It’s so easy and delicious I love the taste of the Puff pastry dough it gives the pie a excellent taste. I made my in a 9″ pie pan but I did bake the bottom pastry dough for 10 minutes so it won’t be soggy at the bottom before adding the filling. Thanks for the recipe
Delicious!! I made mine in a casserole dish and did top and bottom crust. I used plant based milk, frozen peas and carrots, added onion to my sauce, and did an egg wash on the crust to get a more golden crust.
Turned out delicious!!
Fantastic!
I’ve made this several times, always turns out good and I freeze what we don’t eat. I use 6” glass pans that can go in oven, freezer and microwave.
Use my own crust, top only to cut calories, and add potatoes only when I make for someone else.
Used meat from turkey carcass once, and it was great.
Am using no-salt added soup today to cut sodium. Best to let thaw, then use reheat in microwave.
