can i use bisquick or pastry crust.
I have been making my pot pies with ready made pie crust, it’s tastes good. If you’re looking for the pie to taste like KFC you really need to use the Puff pastry dough you’re going to love the taste.
I making this today. But I put poltury seasoning and thyme 1/2 teaspoon of each. Did add rotisserie chicken, and 10 oz bag of frozen veggies. And 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese to thicken. Made biscuit bowls. Family enjoyed it..I will have to try making the way you did see if they like it but no sugar. Thank you have a blessed day๐น
I will make this. Sounds perfect. I think some herbs would be good too, like dried thyme or tarragon. Also, Campbell makes a cream of chicken soup with herbs. Just a thought.
I enjoy reading your recipes..
You have 2 cans of cream of chicken yet it doesnโt say how many ounces.
Yummy came out perfect! I did add Sautรฉed onions and celery! I also used half and half instead of regular milk! Used 1 big aluminum pan 9×11 worked out great!
Just wondering how long you cooked it for in the larger pan. Thank you!
Have made this several times a Tryed and ture winner
I do add celery too and a bit of garlic I par boil my veggies in chicken stock, I cut extra veggie and only mix the amount I need to go with chicken for the right balance.. I save any remaning veggies and stock for soup… If I don’t want to pick up a precooked chicken I have used a couple large chicken breast … Would not let me rate 5 โญโญโญโญโญ
What do you moisten the top crust with? Egg?
sounds good for dinner will try, do you add water to soup per making soup instructions or do you just use the milk and leave the water out ?
did have to thicken it with flour. also added sweated onions. loved it
Just tried this recipe and it was terrific. I added the sugar and you could taste something but not in a negative way. Way easier than using chicken stock and thickening with flour. My family loved it and want me to make this every week.
I am planning to make these tonight. Guess I am thick but not understanding…I line the tins with the pastry and also put pastry on top??
No, just use it on the top. No bottom crust.
It’s way better with a bottom crust plus it’s more filling.
Yes and Yes. Sounds great. Trying mine tomorrow.
Oh my gosh I have been waiting for this recipe. Every Sunday after church we go to KFC for lunch and get the pot pies. But now I can make them at home. Thank you so much for the recipe..
Delicious! My family really enjoyed this. Made 6 in little pie tins and put in freezer. My only problem was way to much liquid in pot pie! Did anyone else have this problem? Will definitely make again.
Add a little flour if it is to watery.
That there’s much liquid on them is what I love with the KFC chicken pot pie.
I recently made this and OMG it was delicious! I made it in a pie dish rather than the smaller pie dish and cut the recipe in half. My daughter took some to work for her co-workers to try and they said it was better than KFC’s. Thanks for sharing this!!
I think this recipe is really under seasoned. I added onions and garlic and it still seems bland. Next time maybe will try the bacon and Some more garlic and maybe a shot of paprika or thyme
When I make chicken soup, vegetables
and many other dishes that seem a little bland do.
I also add some garlic, but the magic ingredient that perks up the dish, is adding a little lime. It takes the place of a need to add additional salt. It’s AMAZING. Fresh is best
start out with a little, There are some lime or lemon crystals that I found in the grocery store that is Awesome. Comes in a box with small packets ( size of sweentner packets)
I put onions and garlic in everything I make……….lol
These sound GREAT. Can I freeze them? I’m a senior and it would be nice to take one out of freezer and pop it into oven. Thank you!
Know if these can be frozen and then cooked? I’m asking because I would like to prepare a few of these for my grandmother and make it as easy as possible for her to cook at home.
Yes..very easy to freeze. Even though peas and pastry were frozen before baking, is still ok to freeze final cooked product. I sometimes add bacon and cracked pepper into the mix as well. Bloody delicious!! (chop bacon and one onion and fry up before adding other ingredients) YUM!
Please clarify – do you bake these before freezing? or Do you freeze them after you just put them together? Also what is the baking time if they are frozen or do you need to thaw them before baking?
I made many of these when I worked there. You have it pretty well spot on. Except we never pre-cooked anything. It was mixed cold, put in tins, topped and baked. It was a long time ago but I want to say it was frozen veggies. Could be wrong.
What happened to the double crust. Our KFC has a double crust not just the top.
Hi. Just bought one from KFC for the first time, no double crust, but was good.
I use frozen mixed veggies and no potato, 1 can cream of celery and 1 can cream of chicken but you can use cream of mushroom or another creamed soup. I think I will try this using a regular pie shell for bottom and puffed pastry for the top.
Your recipe sounds easy, and really good.. I will try this..
Thanks for sharing..
I just love pot pies. I have tried KFC pot pies. If I prepared one at home however, I probably would omit the sugar!
Gloria I agree. I cannot see the point of the sugar. I have never eaten KFC chicken pot pie. this does sound good. I have people in my family that does not like peas. I replace peas with celery. love the puff pastry on top of pot pies.
