10 Uses for Sponges

There are many uses for sponges besides just cleaning up. If you are like me you always have tons of sponges on hand in your cabinets. I always purchase a bag while at the Dollar Store or when I find a nice deal combined with a coupon. Here are 10 other uses for all those sponges you probably have on hand.

1. Deodorize the Fridge: Take a damp sponge, sprinkle some baking soda onto it and pop it in the fridge. It’ll absorb any odors in between cleanings.

2. Grips for Shovels and Rakes: Raking, shoveling, and other household chores can put a lot of work on your hands after long periods of time. Give your yard tools a better grip by wrapping a sponge around the handle and secure with rubber bands.

3. Longer Lasting Soap: After you’re done using your soap, simply place it on a sponge to dry it out in between uses.

4. Toothache Relief: Dampen a sponge with some antibacterial mouthwash and place it into your mouth to get instant toothache relief.

5. Store Breakables: Take some damp sponges and cut them into small squares to place between breakables. As they dry, they’ll contour around the items, keeping them safe and sound.

6. Bath Time Toys: Cut sponges into animals, stars, hearts, or any other fun shapes. These make great bath tub toys for children.

7. Toe Separator: Use small cut up pieces of sponge to keep your toes separated while you paint them.

8. Protect Scratchable Surfaces: Glue very small sponge squares to the bottoms of chair feet, undersides of vases, the backs of picture frames, etc. to prevent scuff marks and scratching.

9. Less Greasy Sunblock: If you hate greasy sunblock, you’ll love this. Applying your sunblock with a sponge makes it easy and a lot less greasy than applying it regularly.

10. Problem Wallpaper: To loosen up stubborn wallpaper, dilute some fabric softener in hot water, soak your sponge and rub it onto the wallpaper. This breaks down the adhesive and makes it much easier to remove.
