Apple Dapple Cake

Apple Dapple Cake is an old fashioned apple cake recipe perfect for fall! A tasty apple dessert made with chunky apples & a sweet glaze. So moist and delicious and, best of all, it’s so easy to make.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 3 cup Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cup Applesauce
  • 1 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • 3 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 5 medium Granny Smith Apples
  • 1 cup chopped Pecans Optional

Glaze

  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 4 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 4 tbsp Sugar
  • 4 tbsp Heavy Cream
  • 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan. Set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 325.
  • Whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  • Peel, core and dice the apples into bite sized pieces. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine apple sauce, sugar and brown sugar. Stir to combine.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract and mix until blended.
  • Add the flour mixture until blended being sure to scrape down the sides.
  • Fold the apple pieces and chopped pecans (if using) into the batter.
  • Transfer batter to prepared dish and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Combine all of the glaze ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Stir continuously while boiling for 1-2 minutes.
  • Pour glaze evenly over the top of the cake.

Notes

Baking times will vary for this cake. Use the toothpick method for checking. Continue to bake the cake until the toothpick comes out clean.
