Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 cup Molasses
  • 2 1/2 cup Flour
  • 2 tsp ground Cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ground Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground Cloves
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 cup hot Water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Grease and flour a 9" square pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter.
  • Add egg and molasses to mixture.
  • Beat until blended.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and baking soda.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture stirring regularly.
  • Add hot water and stir until smooth.
  • Pour into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in pan before serving.
