Candy Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 refrigerated Pie Crust Dough sheets
  • 2 cans Apple Pie Filling
  • 3 oz Red Hot candy
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 6 drops Red Food Coloring
  • Sanding Sugar for top of pie

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Combine 2 oz of Red Hots and water in saucepan over low heat until most of the red hots are dissolved.
  • Combine apple pie filling and red hot mixture in a large bowl and stir to combine.
  • Place one sheet of pie dough in bottom of pie pan.
  • Pour filling into the pie crust.
  • Top with remaining Red Hots.
  • Using a pastry cutter or knife cut other pie crust into strips.
  • Basket weave the strips to form a lattice top. Trim and crimp around edges.
  • Sprinkle with sanding sugar.
  • Bake for 40 minutes. If the edges of your pie are getting too brown before the center is browned, cover edges with aluminum foil.
  • Allow to cool before serving.
