Valentine Blondies

I’ve always been a huge fan of treats and desserts like brownies and cookie bars. They’re like hand foods but sweet, which can make it a little too easy to have one brownie too many- haha! Best of all is that making these kinds of desserts is so easy. With Valentine’s Day coming up, I figured folks might need an easy Valentine’s dessert or treat to give out. With that in mind, here’s our recipe for Valentine Blondie Bars.

Stack of Valentine Blondies

What are blondies? Well, they’re sort of like a “blonde brownie:” made in basically the same way as a brownie, just without any cocoa powder. Instead of chocolate flavors, blondies lean much more on vanilla and caramel flavors. I’m not saying blondies are better than brownies, but they are a fun way to mix things up. If you want, you can even throw in some chocolate chips or M&M’s to make them sort of like a cookie bar!

Ingredients for Blondie Bars

  • Butter
  • Brown Sugar – We usually use a light brown sugar here.
  • Egg
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Baking Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Flour
  • Salt
You’ll also want some sort of chocolate bites in there as well. You can use chocolate chips or some Valentine M&M’s. We usually use a mix of both! If you’d like, you could also toss in some chopped walnuts or pecans.

How to make Blondies

We love making these Blondie Bars because they’re just so easy! Here’s what you’ll need to do to make a batch of your own:
  1. Prep your wet ingredients and dry mix separately before gradually mixing the two together into a batter.
  2. Stir in your chocolate chips and M&M’s before pouring the batter into a lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove and let cool before removing from the pan and slicing into bars.

Dry ingredients for cookie bars in a bowl

Your end product will turn out much better if you prep your wet and dry ingredients separately. In one bowl, whisk together your flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. For the wet ingredients, we’re going to start on the stovetop. Add your butter and sugar to a saucepan and mix them together over medium/medium-low heat. Once they’re mixed together and smooth, cut the heat and let cool for a few minutes before transferring to a clean bowl. Mix in your eggs and vanilla.

Egg added to butter and sugar mixture

Start gradually adding and mixing the dry ingredients into the wet mix. Eventually, this will form into a light smooth batter.

Dry ingredients added to blondie batter

When you get here, we recommend adding half of your chips and M&M’s. Stir until spread throughout the batter.

Pour the batter into a lined baking sheet and top with the leftover chocolate chips and M&M’s. Once it’s all ready, transfer into an awaiting 350 degree oven.

Blondie batter added to pan

It’ll take 25-30 minutes to bake. Pull it at 25 if you’d like your blondie brownies chewier.

Fresh baked blonde cookie bars

Let cool for a few minutes before removing from the pan. Slice into blondie bars and enjoy!

  3. I love your recipes. I have a request, I hope that’s OK. Is it possible for you to include a printer friendly copy of your recipes? I can’t imagine that I am the only person who would really appreciate that! I use a tablet, and cannot copy and paste to another document. I would so love to be able to print your recipes without the entire blog post. I hope you don’t mind my asking. It is a compliment to you! Thank you

    1. Hi Carolyn! Thanks so very much for the input. I actually had a print version available and had some conflicts. The hubby is actually going to work on this very issue today. I am hoping he can get the conflicts figured out (I have huge faith in him that he will, ha ha). So you should see print versions available before the weekend is over. I am sure it has been frustrating for you and I know it has been for others too!
