I know many are planning your vacations (lucky you). I thought I would share with you some tips on how to save while you head on out on that vacation. I am hoping to be needing these tips soon.
When the time comes to start planning your summer vacation, everybody gets that little “butterflies in the stomach” sensation. The kids get it because a ton of fun is right around the corner and you get it because you can feel the credit card bills coming due already. The only way to ease those fears is to save some money along the way. With that said, here are some great ways to cut the summer travel budget in a big way:
Vacation Saving Tips Save $$’s
Learn the bliss of next door accommodation
As you plan the vacation, consider the fact that staying in a town adjacent to tourism central can save you a bundle. If you are headed to the beach, consider the smaller locales over the big name resort areas. You can still visit the big tourism sites but without the inflated hotel bill.
Get up and walk!
Walking does not get nearly as much attention as it should. If you are on vacation, walk to all the various places that you can. You will get exercise and save money at the same time. Spend one day looking around New York City, for example, while paying for cab fare. You will quickly learn to use those legs and save!
Use the grocery store instead of room service
When we travel, most people want to go out to eat all the time. If your vacation is to taste food all over the United States, then by all means continue. Otherwise, you are spending a huge part of your budget on food. Go to the grocery store and make your own suppers or lunches. Surely don’t pay for the hotel food or room service! Having some special meals out is always one of the nicest parts about vacationing. Consider looking through all of the Dining Coupons and Deals to save on some of those meals. Consider some “Kids Eat Free” dining options.
Consider alternate transportation ideas
If you going somewhere that demands you drive everywhere, consider taking your car or renting an automobile. If not, it might make more sense to fly, take a train or ride a bus to your destination. These options are great if you are not going to need a vehicle where you are going. Consider saving all of those fuel points towards your gasoline costs. Maybe finding discount gas cards when they offered through various online sites.
Be willing to book dates/times in less demand
Booking trips in the off-season is the best way to save money. Consider going at the beginning or end of the summer for an awesome break in rates. The beach is generally gorgeous in May and September but without the prices that are charged in July and August.
Ask about group discounts if others are traveling around the same time
Finally, consider looking into a group discount for your hotels, transportation or tourist attractions. This might require that you travel at the same time as other friends and family, but that is often already the case. If you can plan to go at the same time, you can save a ton of cash.
Saving money on travel and summer vacations is really about paying attention to what hurts the wallet. If you are willing to think and plan outside the box, then you are certain to have a great time with no worries bogging you down.
