5 Tips on How to Create a Gift Closet
Are you looking for Tips on How to Create a Gift Closet? Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you need a quick gift, but don’t have the time or maybe even the money to run to the store? Maybe it is a quick birthday gift you need, or a housewarming or hostess gift. Regardless, there is a solution to this common dilemma. You can create a simple gift closet! A gift closet is just what it sounds like, a closet full of thoughtful yet inexpensive gifts ready for when you need them. Not sure where to begin? No worries. Take a look below at some helpful tips on how to create a gift closet of your very own.
1. Find the perfect spot.
You will want to find the perfect spot for your gift closet. Somewhere out of the way and up high where children can’t get into it is ideal. You don’t necessarily need a whole closet, just a shelf or two of a closet is perfect. Consider under the bed storage if you are tight on closet space like I am. You can pick up under the bed storage cheap at your local department store or snag this DAZZ Jumbo Underbed Storage Box with Cedar, Natural Canvas on Amazon, it will do the trick!
2. Get it organized.
You want to keep your gift closet organized so it is simple to use and you always know what you have available. Place simple dollar store bins on the shelves and label them according to what is inside. You can divide up items by age or gender, for example having a girl’s bin, boy’s bin, adult woman bin, or adult man bin.
3. Get shopping.
Filling up your gift closet is a cinch. All you need to do is keep your eyes peeled for bargain or clearance items on your regular shopping trips or deals that I post here on Cincyshopper. This could be movies, books, clothing items, toys, accessories, bath products, and anything else you see at a great price. Consider stashing some of those great samples that we score from time to time in one of your bins. Look for items that you can find for $5 or less after clearance. As soon as you get these items home, place them in the appropriate bin.
4. Use coupons to score gift closet freebies.
Use coupons that once redeemed, get you the product for free. Many bath products and beauty products can be scored for free or nearly free after coupon. We have at least one hot item each week usually more! Keep your eyes peeled for these deals as they make great gifts for girls and teens. I quite often snag the men’s razors and men labelled bath & body products for gift bags for the men teachers and bus drivers.
5. Now get gifting.
When you need a last minute gift, just head to your gift closet instead of the store. Keep plenty of dollar store gift bags and tissue on hand for quick wrapping.
A gift closet is the perfect solution when you need an inexpensive gift on the go. Give these tips a try and see how easy it is to make your own. I try to stash lots of small cheap toy or candy type items in my gift closet to use for rewards for my kiddos. It seems the older they get the more I have to “bribe” them ha ha! My oldest (17 yr old girl) I can usually bribe with some of my bath and body finds so I like to keep lots of stash. Also the small items and samples are great for gift baskets. Purchasing items throughout the year for you gift closet will also help with savings at the Christmas holiday season when budgets are ALWAYS tight.
