5 Tips for Saving on Meat
1. Buy bone in/skin on cuts.
When you buy boneless/skinless cuts of meat, you will pay more for the effort that goes into them. Instead, buy bone in and skin on pieces and remove these parts yourself. It is not hard to do, and you will find these pieces to be quite flavorful.
2. Email for coupons.
Many meat companies will send you coupons if you just ask for them. Visit the websites of your favorite companies and nicely ask what savings may be available. Some companies you may wish to email would be Oscar Mayer, Smithville, and Butterball. These sites may even have printable coupons right on their sites. If I post a meat coupon here on Cincyshopper be sure to print and use on a great sale. I quite often save my meat coupons for Double Coupon Events or a great sale to maximize my savings.
3. Buy reduced for quick sale items.
Look in the reduced for quick sale section to find meat items you can use that evening or even freeze and save for later. You can usually find meat nearing the sell by date for as much as 50% off. This is a great way to buy more expensive cuts. Purchase extras when you find a great deal. Lately I have been finding some great deals on marked down meat at Aldi. The better cuts do not seem to sell at Aldi very well so I have found some great bargains. Ask your store managers when is the best time to watch for their store markdowns. Also after certain holidays you will find great markdowns on leftover hams, turkeys, etc. We will quite often see coupons out for ham and turkey at those holidays too.
4. Check out wholesale stores.
Stores such as Sam’s Club and Costco are perfect for finding reduced cuts. If you are having a party or just have a large family, these retail stores are the perfect place to buy what you need in at a great price.
5. Buy frozen.
You can still find tasty and fresh meat in the frozen foods section. Look for premade patties, sausage, and more in the frozen foods section. You can still find plenty that are preservative free, tasty, and at a great price!
