It’s almost Valentine’s Day and these Strawberry Muddy Buddies would be great for snacking or for a Valentine’s Day party. Quick, easy and so yummy! I had not tried muddy buddies or even known of them until last year. We have made them a few times with some different flavors but this strawberry flavor has been my favorite so far. Sweetened Rice Chex is so good. If you have not given it a try, do so.
Strawberry Muddy Buddies
I noticed you can now purchase bagged Muddy Buddies at the grocery. Of course the bags are so tiny. Making your own Homemade Muddy Buddies is so much more economical. More Buddies for your Buck! ha ha. I picked up some Wilton Candies on Sale this week at Michael’s with a coupon ($1.99 per bag sale price), They always seem to behave so much better than chocolate chips from the grocery. Also, Kroger had their Rice Chex on sale last week and the strawberry Cake Mix was on sale this week. I made enough of these Strawberry Muddy Buddies to feed all my kiddos and their friends that were over after school.
6 cup Rice Chex cereal
12 oz White Melting chips
2 cup Strawberry Cake Mix
1 cup Powdered Sugar
Candy, Decorations or Sprinkles (optional)
In a large zippered bag combine the cake mix and powdered sugar and shake to mix well.
Melt the white chips in the microwave by heating for 30 seconds then stirring and repeating until melted and smooth.
Put the cereal in a large bowl, pour the melted chocolate over it and mix until well coated.
Add the cereal mixture to the plastic bag and shake until the cereal is completely covered.
Add any additional candy decorations if desired. I added in some Valentine Themed Candies I had on hand.
One thing I like to do when making Muddy Buddies is to spread them on a wire rack to allow some of the sugar to fall off so the flavor is not too overwhelming. This step is not necessary but I find it helps cut down on the extra powdered sugar.
I considered placing a serving of these Strawberry Muddy Buddies in a small bag and wrapping a valentine colored bow to make for a cute treat for the kids Valentine’s Day lunch.
