First Understand that a Mega Event or “What a Deal” Event is a sale promotion that runs frequently at Kroger. Lately we have seen many different variations of the deal. Sometimes the event will boast a “Buy 10 Participating Items, Get $5 off Instantly. Other times Buy 5 or 4 Items to qualify for an extra $’s off.
Here is a sample of an ad that is carrying a Mega Event. Note that Items are specifically listed and highlighted for inclusion as part of the “Mega Event” or “What a Deal Event”
Now let’s take a closer look at one particular product. Notice how Kroger specifically shows the price before the Mega Event savings and then the price after the promotional savings.

Once you have checked out all of the promotions and unadvertised deals, come up with a plan of attack. The best thing you can do when shopping a Mega Event, is to be organized!

Then start your Kroger Shopping list right here on CincyShopper. Print your list and gather your coupons. Having your list and the coupons you have for those items will help you stay organized. You can also find any additional coupons needed in the Coupon Database found here.
Go to the store and start shopping!
While in the store you will want to ensure the items you are purchasing are part of the event. Kroger is really good about clearly marking the promotional items. You will see yellow and blue tags around the store. There will also be signs in front of items clearly indicating that this is a Mega Event item. Note on each product tag of any limits that there may be placed on the product you are planning to purchase. Sometimes Kroger will limit the number of Mega Event items you can purchase in one transaction. For Instance if the tag mentions a Limit of 5 Rewards you will only be able to purchase 20 items if its a buy 4 event. See the picture below to better understand the Kroger Mega Event sale tags…
You also need to pay close attention to how many items you are putting in your basket. Remember this is a buy X get $X sale. If you have 9 items, you will not get the $5 savings!
Make sure you are also keeping track of which coupons you will be using. Here are a few ideas for you so you can keep those items straight.
The Reusable Shopping Bag Method– I really like this plan for when shopping! Place reusable shopping bags in your cart. Place the number of items need for the Mega Event savings in each one. If the sale is for 10 items place ten items in each bag. This method will allow you to keep track of how many mega event items you have.
The bottom of the Cart Method– Some like to place their non Mega Event items on the bottom of their carts. This insures that you will not count the non Mega Event items in your Mega Event totals.
It’s Time to Checkout!
During checkout hand over your Kroger Card first. Without using the Kroger Card you will not receive any additional savings. After all items are rang hand over your coupons to the cashier. The $x savings for each x participating items will automatically come off.
Note your additional Mega Event Savings will not be deducted from your total until the end of the checkout.I personally like to pay close attention during the checkout process. I count my mega event items and place them on the belt in groups of the Mega event specifications. I watch the total as the items are scanned. I like to know the total before my coupons are redeemed. I want to ensure that I’m getting $X off for every X Mega Event items. It is easier to correct an error during the checkout process than it is after you have already paid. After checking out I check my receipt to make sure nothing was missed.
Now, you should be all set for you next Mega Event Shopping trip. Strategically shopping for savings really can stretch your budget especially during a Kroger mega Event.
