Back to School Savings Tip: Shop Early

Let’s face it, back to school shopping is stressful! It feels like the minute school gets out for summer vacation, we are already planning our back to school shopping list and figuring the budget.

I don’t know about you but I feel like my list gets longer and longer every year. These four school aged kids supplies are crazy. Backpacks, book covers, school supplies, clothes, shoes, under garments and everything else that comes along with starting a new school year.

Supply List

I’m not going to lie, I used to wait until the last-minute to buy our school supplies. I quickly realized that the week before school starts and the first week school is in session, stores drastically raise their prices. Why? Pretty simple, they know you have no choice but to buy at full price.

I have found a way around this full price trick stores like to play. I start shopping early! Not in early August or late July but in June and the first two weeks of July. Not only does this save me a lot of money but it reduces my stress when school starts back up. I know you are probably thinking “well I don’t have a supply list yet” that’s okay! You can still shop without a supply list. There are some things every child is going to need for back to school and will most likely be on the supply list.

Keep in mind some of these items will depend on the child’s grade level

  • Pencils
  • Pens
  • Eraser
  • Highlighters
  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Binder
  • Glue
  • Tissues
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Book Covers
  • Supply Box
  • Backpack

You might be shocked to find out that during the early summer months you can get a box of #2 pencils for under $1 or maybe even FREE. Try buying those same pencils in August/September and you might spend around $2.99!

Back to School Kids

Every week I will be focusing on a new Back To School Shopping Tip for you. Additionally, starting at the beginning of July I will be featuring Back to School shopping lists for all the stores and even online. These lists will list all the supplies offered on sale and coupon matchups for each. This will be sure to help me get shopping and hopefully help you with your shopping lists. Get started as early as you can so you can save big! Be sure to start checking all those clearance racks for amazing finds to stash back. I have come across some amazing deals just looking in the clearance section at many of the stores..

I’m sure a lot of you have already heard about this, but Best Buy is discontinuing it’s office supply section, and everything is $0.50!! I went a couple days ago and got a nice notebook and some binders and duct tape for around $3. There is a display near the registers, and I found the binders and such by the computer supplies up on the very top shelf.
