ALDI Shopping and Prepping Back to School Lunches
Back to school is just around the corner. For most of us, this means we are needing to include convenient and affordable lunchbox items in our grocery budgets. If you follow my blog, you are fully aware that I like to keep my grocery budget in check by shopping ALDI. Since ALDI has a large selection of affordable and nutritious lunchbox options, it is my favorite store to shop each week for our school lunchbox items.
School day mornings can be quite hectic for most parents; I am sure many of you can relate. I usually feel very accomplished if I can have my crew of kiddos out the door on time, ha ha. Since I am always pressed for time, I like to plan, shop, and prep my kids lunch items on Sundays each week. One weekly shopping trip to my local ALDI store and 30 minutes on Sunday evening is all that is required to save us precious time on weekday mornings. If your mornings are similar to ours, consider shopping and prepping lunch items once per week.
I like to prep and make individual portions to keep in handy bins. I have a designated spot in the refrigerator and also in the kitchen drawers. If I pre-portion everything and keep lunchbox items organized, it’s a matter of the kids choosing and tossing their choices into their lunchboxes. This method has kept the morning madness to a minimum.
Some of the kids like basic sandwiches for lunch and the other like a bit more variety. So I like to provide different options. The pre-prepped items are great for offering a variety of options. Offering different meats, veggies, breads, fruits, and snacks allows them to create a lunch they will like. I can find everything we need right at ALDI, no need to shop multiple stores which saves me a bunch of time.
My weekly ALDI shopping list always includes lunch meats and cheeses. Lunch meats are great for wraps, salads, and sandwiches. Our family is big on ham, turkey, and cheddar. Since the selection of lunch meats and cheeses are awesome at ALDI, I can purchase a few different varieties of each to allow the kids choices. We have really taken a liking to the Never Any! -Lunch Mate Uncured Black Forest Ham and also the Lunch Mate Never Any! -Oven Roasted Turkey Breast. Both meats are so lean and full of great flavor.
I roll two pieces of lunch meat in plastic wrap and toss it right in a refrigerator bin. I do the same for our cheeses. I usually purchase the Happy Farms Cheese Slices which work great for any sandwich. One of my other favorite items found in the refrigerated section is the Kirkwood Grilled Chicken Breast Strips. I can dice the chicken and individually portion and place in the same bin with the lunch meat and cheeses. The chicken portions are great, allowing the kiddos to enjoy a chicken wrap or grilled chicken salad. I love the convenience.
I prep and portion fruits, vegetables, and even dips. My kids really like the baby carrots and celery for dipping in a dip or dressing. Having individual servings available for the kids to choose from works perfect for us. ALDI offers up great prices and a large selection of so many fruits and vegetables, even organic. Fresh carrots, celery, and cherry tomatoes are available at ALDI regularly. I always purchase fresh fruits that are in season at great prices. The Tuskcean Garden bottled dressings are always affordable and perfect for dip cups.
One of the items I purchase each and every week for lunches is the bagged Little Salad Bar Garden Salad mix. I can grab a handful of the mix and toss in individual zippered bags then place in a refrigerator bin for early morning convenience. These are perfect for making a basic garden salad or even a chef salad. The Little Salad Bar Caesar Salad kit that includes romaine lettuce, croutons, shredded Parmesan cheese, and Caesar dressing is great for a Caesar salad or wrap for lunch.
The baked goods section at ALDI is always stocked with so many bread, roll, and flatbread options. The prices and variety work perfect for our family. Since some of the kiddos prefer white bread and, others prefer a whole wheat option, I know I can find all the variety I need at the best price right at ALDI I purchase the Fit & Active Flatbread. They make for a great wrap. Oh and another option for making lunch box wraps are the inexpensive Pueblo Lindo Flour Tortillas found in with the Hispanic fixings aisle at ALDI. They are available in a variety of sizes, taste great, and keep cost to a minimum. We use them for ham & cheese or ham & turkey roll-ups.
I keep all of our bread options right in a large drawer with sandwich bags. They can choose their option each morning and then toss it in their lunch bags.
I like to allow the kids one special treat item to pack in their lunches each day. ALDI offers up quite a few convenience items that make for great treats and still pack in some nutrition. My kids really like to choose a Friendly Farms Moo Tubes or the Friendly Farms Yogurt Swirlies most days. I keep those right in another refrigerator too.
Some of the other snack items I purchase for our snack drawer include the Simply Nature Fruit Ropes that are available in Raspberry Lemonade and also Strawberry Banana. They are handy lunch box snacks that they really like. The Lunch Buddies Naturally Flavored Fruit Snacks are a family favorite. They are great to toss into the kiddos lunches and also make for a great evening snack for mom and dad. These fruit snacks come highly recommended from both Mike and I, they have awesome real fruit flavors.
I keep all of our convenient pre-packaged snacks right in a drawer under our bread drawer. Super simple for the kids to grab and go. I like them to have choices and shopping at ALDI allows me to purchase a variety of lunch snacks at a great price.
My big kids are fans of bottled water for their beverage at lunch time. Sometimes they will choose juice boxes or drink pouches. I always have the apple Nature’s Nectar 100% Juice boxes on my ALDI shopping list. Finding a 100% juice box at a reasonable price is super simple when shopping ALDI.
I was excited to see all of the Back to School products including many Special Buys items that were included in the ALDI weekly ad available at my store this week. You can see the ALDI Back to School Weekly Ad here.
I have found that my shopping and prepping of lunchbox items once per week really does save the entire family time each morning. Shopping at ALDI for all of our lunch needs saves me time and a bundle of cash. It’s a win-win for our family.
