ALDI Lunches: 5 Affordable and Nutritious Back to School Lunches
I have three kids who pack their lunches each day. The cost can really add up and put my budget into a whirl. To keep those costs to a minimum, I do one weekly shopping trip to my local ALDI store, prep everything each Sunday, and then allow the kids to toss everything into their lunch bags each morning.
Saving on school lunches can really add up. I find that ALDI has the best variety and pricing for school lunches. The options for creating unique lunches is endless and I need to shop just one store for everything we need.
Yesterday, I shared my weekly ALDI shopping trip and back to school lunch prep with you here on my blog. You can see how we shop ALDI for our school lunches and how I prep each week here. Today, I wanted share 5 affordable and nutritious lunch options that my kiddos create from my weekly ALDI shopping and prep.
Chicken Caesar Salad Lunch– This lunch happens to be my youngest sons favorite. From a young age, he has always been big on salads. The Salad Bar Caesar Salad kit (that includes the dressing, croutons and cheese) with some of the Kirkwood Grilled Chicken pieces is a lunch he takes often. Combine the salad with carrots sticks and a SimplyNature Kids Apple Strawberry Fruit Squeezies pouch and a Nature’s Nectar 100% Apple Juice and we have a nice well balanced lunch.
Turkey and Cheese Sandwich– My oldest son will pack a sandwich every single day. It’s just his thing. His favorite bread is the L’oven Fresh Whole Wheat Bread. For this lunch, he decided on adding in some Clancy’s Baked Original Potato Chips, celery sticks, Lunch Buddies Cinnamon Applesauce Cups, a Moo Tubes yogurt tube, and Nature’s Nectar Apple Juice Cocktail.
ALDI has a HUGE selection of healthy potato chip options. I will usually purchase a few different varieties each week for the family to snack on after school or for them to add with the sandwich lunches.
Pepperoni, Cheese and Crackers– My other son created this lunch. It has always been a favorite. I think the boy would eat pepperoni every single day if I allowed him to, ha ha. The Mama Cozzi’s Sliced Pepperoni is priced perfect and is great to pack in his lunch with the Happy Farms Sharp Cheddar Cheese. The meat and cheese pairs well with the Savoritz Wheat Crackers. He adds in some carrot sticks with Tuscan Garden Ranch Dressing. He also adds in Benton’s Teddy Bear Grahams and a Simply Nature Strawberry Banana Fruit Rope.
Chef Salad– This lunch is my favorite. Tossing together a chef salad in the morning is so easy. I toss in the Little Salad Bar Garden Mix with a NEVER ANY! Lunch Mate Turkey slice and Lunch Mate Ham slice prepped package with some of the Tuscan Garden Ranch Dressing. A perfect Chef Salad. We added in a Happy Farms Mozzarella String Cheese (all my kids devour these) and an individual package of Southern Grove California Raisins. Plus we also added in the SimplyNature Kids Organic Grape-tastic Juice Pouches*.
Caesar Chicken Salad Wrap– This lunch is so super simple and really packs in some nutrition. We start with a Fit & Active Flatbread. We really like that these flatbreads can create many different options in school lunches. This wrap with the Little Salad Bar Caesar Salad kit and Kirkwood Grilled Chicken makes for a super filling lunch. We just add in some fresh cherry tomatoes, a Savoritz Penguin Baked Cheddar Snack Crackers, Friendly Farms Yogurt Swirlies, and a SimplyNature Grape-tastic Juice Pouches*. This lunch is a hit with all three of my kids.
Thinking of lunches that are not basic pb&j sandwiches can be challenging some times. Try to think outside the box with convenient items like salad mixes, precooked meats, and cheeses. The variety of options can be endless.
