5 Tips to Save on Halloween Costumes
1. Visit consignment shops.
Local consignment shops often feature Halloween costumes for as little as a few dollars. Better yet, go and sell them your old costumes to get money to buy new-to-you costumes. If they don’t carry actual costumes, you may be able to find pieces to make your own, such as princess style dresses.
2. Check eBay
eBay has a plethora of Halloween costumes both new and used. Give eBay a browse and see what you can dig up. You may even be able to find a seller willing to ship for free plus earn back eBay bucks on your purchase!
3. Hit up thrift stores.
Check out your local thrift stores for costumes as well as clothing items to make your own costumes. Shop early and shop often for the best selection of costumes, dresses, tiaras, jackets, dress up shoes and accessories.
4. Swap with friends.
If you have friends who have children similar in age to yours, see if you can swap costumes and accessories. Chances are the costumes were only worn once, so they will still be in great shape and ready for a night of trick or treating.
5. Repurpose an old costume.
Have a princess costume? Turn it into a fairy costume. Have a cow boy costume? Turn it into a farmer costume. Give your old pieces new life by using them in creative ways. You just might be surprised at some of the ideas you come up with.
